"One of the most widely appreciated and prominent musical maestro's that ever happened to live in history”, The Flexican’s mini Twitter-bio states. Pardon me? Wait, there’s more: “…musical genius Mozart was born on the 27th of January 1756 in Salzburg". Tongue firmly in cheek – that’s just the way The Flexican likes it. This hard-working, but fun-loving Mexico-born Dutchman has become one of the most prominent names in Dutch club scene and now travels the world with his music.
Thomás Goethals, better known as The Flexican, was born in Mexico City in 1983. He grew up surrounded by all sorts of music genres, from Latin to Rock. As a result, Thomás became fascinated by music at a young age. When he was about nine years old he moved to the Netherlands. Soon electronic music and hip-hop got his attention and he decided this was going to be his future. He attended the School for Audio Engineering in Amsterdam. The start of something great, it appeared to be.
From the moment The Flexican moved to the Netherlands he started sharing his passion for music with his best friend Yousef Gnaoui, also known as rapper Sef. Together they founded the hip-hop formation ‘Flinke Namen’ in 2004. The Flexican produced all the music for ‘Flinke Namen’. In 2009 the album ‘Superstuntwerk’ was released and later rewarded with several awards nominations, 3FM Megahits and a completely sold-out live tour. ‘Flinke Namen’ turned out to be a massive success.
Throughout the years The Flexican perfected his eclectic style, combining hip-hop and house with many other electronic music styles. As they say, hard work pays off. In 2007 he won a Dutch Gouden Greep Award for ‘Best DJ’ followed by three Dutch State Awards in 2009, 2010 and 2012. The Flexican sets his goals sky high.
Other than making music he established the entertainment concepts ‘Yours Truly’ and ‘The Flexican Society’. ‘Yours Truly’ is a popular club night where the queue is notorious for covering the entire street. During these nights The Flexican plays a legendary 4-hour set with the latest hits and his all-time favorite party tracks. What started as an intimate party in Amsterdam’s Jimmy Woo, soon expanded to many sold-out ‘Yours Truly XXL’ editions and Yours Truly stages at many festivals.
In contrast to this highly successful concept he developed ‘The Flexican Society’: one of the most exclusive parties in Amsterdam. Only for the real fashion-minded music lovers, as The Flexican is also considered to be a true trendsetter and appeared with fashion shoots in magazines like Esquire.
One of his most recent projects is the mega hit ‘Watch Out For This (Bumaye)’, in cooperation with Major Lazer and FS Green. The track appeared on the album ‘Free the universe’ which caused a stir in the charts and made it to the top 5 of the Dutch single charts. He also recently made remixes of Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2’, Faith’s ‘Picking Up The Pieces’ and Jeremih’s ‘F*ck You All the Time’. Other than the tracks and remixes, he yearly releases the Yours Truly Yearmix. This mix is a recurring highlight for the fans. A compilation of the past year with his original tracks, remixes, bootlegs and favorites. Listen to the latest tracks on the music page. We keep you updated at all times.
Respected by his colleagues and loved by party people all over the world for rocking the dancefloor with his banging tunes and energetic performances, The Flexican is here to stay.
